Shanghai Air Stock Up After Bid News

Shanghai Airlines stock price jumped by the daily limit of 10 percent today on news that Air China may seek a merger with the company.
The Beijing Times reported today that Air China is in talks with Shanghai Airlines for a broad agreement. China Eastern rejected an earlier bid by Air China saying the offer was “not serious.”
Shares in Shanghai Airlines rose to 10.24 yuan, a 10 percent rise. Shares in Air China were trading at 17.72 yuan, up 1.45 yuan or 8.91 percent as of 2:23 PM on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
Shanghai Air presently has a 15 percent market share by passengers for air traffic in Shanghai. Air China has a 12 percent market share. China Eastern has a 40 percent market share.
While Air China plans to pursue a merger with Shanghai Air, it has not ruled out the possibility of another deal proposal with China Eastern.
